God is persistent in his intention to covenant with people; so he forgives them and leads them into intimate relationship with himself, never giving up.
An inventor keeps working on, despite one failure and disappointment after another. He keeps on working without making any money; he may even lose money, or go into debt way over his head. But he persists, because he is spurred on by his vision of what his invention will do, when he finally achieves his purpose. Thomas Edison experimented for years, tried one kind of filament after another, failed again and again, slept only a few hours a day, but kept on until he succeeded. Why? Because he had the vision of an electric lamp which would replace the dim and dangerous oil lamp of his day. After years of preparation, he did invent a bright, long-burning electric lamp, which has been a tremendous blessing to billions of people.
