God defines the nature of love by his very action of sending Jesus Christ to a world that has rebelled against its Creator. God chose to love us and forgive our sins, rather than hate us and punish us for our sins. Such a love has to be strong and constant, bearing the test of time and the trial of tribulation. In Sonnet 116, William Shakespeare describes this nature of love with these words:
... Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O, no! it is an ever-fixed mark,
