Get out of town before...
Illustration
"Get out of town before it's too late!" The pastor and his wife had been verbally attacked, accused of lying, larceny, and laziness by an illegally-formed personnel committee. They were confused, exhausted and innocent of all charges. Gossip about them was justified by the clerk of session when he publicly defined gossip as "the truth as I understand it." On Christmas day, the pastor, now completely impotent as pastor, wrote to an executive in another presbytery. "Please find me another congregation immediately!" He had to wait almost two years to get the call.
