Gert Behanna, the author of The Late Liz, tells about a daughter of a New York millionaire who had too much money, too much to drink, and too many men. After thirty hung-over years as an alcoholic, she was confronted by God with his forgiving love in Jesus Christ. Telling of this experience that changed her life, she says, "When I rose from my knees a transformed and newly born Christian I suddenly realized that I who had never loved anyone in all the world was now, in Christ, the sister to every man, woman, and child who had ever lived."
This is what can happen when we allow the light of Christ to shine through the darkness of our sin-filled, self-centered worlds. Christ is light, and in him is no darkness at all. Christ looked upon Gert Behanna's soul, scattered the darkness of pride and sin which was there, and awakened her to her true life of citizenship in God's Kingdom.
