The GAP (Grace Action Program) program at Grace Church finds one local family a year to help. We work with them and try to fill in the "gap" in their life. GAP supporters are asked to give 50 cents a week -- $26 a year -- to help someone overcome debilitating circumstances. It is not too steep a price to pay to help better a person's life. We work one-to-one with the family, ascertaining its needs and finding ways our church can be supportive.
The overwhelming insufficiencies of humanity need not paralyze us. Bob Pearce, the founder of World Service, used to be asked, "How do you feed a hungry world?" His answer: "One person at a time." We cannot do everything, but we can do something. The surest evidence of a genuine faith is not the ease with which the language of belief is spoken but in the results that emerge as the consequence of a transformational confidence in Christ. Such a faith expresses itself in concrete acts of love to real people in need.
