Frantz Fanon, the famed Algerian psychiatrist/author wrote The Wretched of the Earth and in this book exposed the evils of colonialism as an eyewitness and rebel sympathizer during the French-Algerian War. In the preface to this volume, Jean-Paul Sartre provides a penetrating précis of Fanon s message to the native masses and of his ensuing indictment against the minority French settlers. Sartre writes concerning the French and the Algerians: "The former had the Word; the others had the use of it.
