Forty-year-old Pastor Larry...

Forty-year-old Pastor Larry still has problems with one of his seminary professors. "When I was in school 15 years ago I hated to take a class from him. He taught theology and I was never very good in that subject. Every moment I was in his class I felt intimidated. He had written more books than I had read. He knew his subject matter in and out and I seldom understood anything he was talking about.
"To make matters worse, he delighted in badgering students. Seldom did the day pass that he did not ridicule or scold someone for something -- and I was the object of his scorn all too often.
"I thought I was past that until I went to the General Assembly of the denomination last year. There were 5,000 people in the room and he came to the microphone to make a comment. I must have been sitting 100 yards from him and 15 years from those theology classes, yet I still felt my stomach clutch and my hands begin to perspire.
"For what I hear, he has not mellowed with age. He still delights in intimidating his students."
That professor may be intelligent, but he certainly doesn't understand the difference between wisdom and information. Wisdom, as James explains, is offered in humility, with understanding and results in peace.
