In football, as in any sport, communication between the team members is essential. Each play has specific assignments and if any of the players does not learn the correct assignment for each play will fail. This communication comes through hard work and practice. In practice the players learn what each other can do. The quarterback is the heart and soul of this communication. He knows not only his play responsibilities but everyone else's responsibilities. He makes sure they line up correctly and reminds them of their assignments in the huddle. He calls the signals and if the rest of the team is not paying attention to him, no matter how much they have studied the play it will not work right and it will fail. -- Watson
