The final plague for the Egyptians, the death of the firstborn, was coming. All of the
Israelites were told to mark the doorpost of their house with the blood of a lamb. When
that was done, the angel of death would pass over that home. As the Lamb of God, the
Lord Jesus bears the punishment of death for us. First Peter 2:24 puts it this way: "He
himself bore our sins in his body on the cross [tree] so that, free from sins, we might live
for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed."
