A few years ago an artist painted a very impressive picture of Christ with the little children. Jesus was seated and they were gathered around his knees as he apparently held their interest in his conversation with them. Now the artist imagined that this incident in the life of Christ took place after his resurrection. One little child was observant enough to notice the wound of the cross in the hand of Christ. And like most children his curiosity was aroused and he did not hesitate to ask for information. So he posed the question to Christ: "What happened to your hand?" That is the title of the drawing. One can only imagine how Christ would answer such a question, explaining an ugly wound in his hand as a result of the crucifixion. What a glorious opportunity it must have been for Christ to tell of the extent of his love for all children and adults in the whole world, and of the heavenly Father who sent Christ into the world for our redemption! Because of the Scriptures you and I know that our world is sinful. We know, also, of God's hatred of sin, and how he must oppose and punish it. What a wonderful gift it was that Christ came to die in penalty for our sins, so that we might be able to inherit eternal life! -- Lentz
