Every morning for as long...
Illustration
Every morning for as long as he could remember, 10-year-old James had watched his father get ready to go to work at the lumber mill. He would pull on his twill shirt, buckle up his overalls, and lace up his boots. Mom would pack a sandwich, some cookies, and a piece of fruit in his lunchbox and off Dad would go. James always felt a little sad because he knew he wouldn't see his father again until late that night when he came home with a slump in his shoulders, tired and covered with sawdust.
