Events in the gospels are often backward from what the reader might expect.
In this Lukan account, for example, God says to Jesus, "With you I am well pleased." Surprisingly, this divine praise comes, not after Jesus' passion, not even midway through his ministry, but before it even begins! God commends Jesus before Jesus performs even one small miracle, teaches any wisdom, or recruits a single follower. God glorifies Jesus even before his wilderness struggle with the Devil and spiritual victory over temptations.
