Even though Roberto is in his early teens he attends worship every Sunday. When everyone was encouraged to take part in one of the ministries of the church Roberto signed up to read a scripture lesson in worship. He claims that while he was nervous about reading in public the experience strengthened his relationship with the Lord. “Then it came to me,” Roberto says, “that I am not here to read for the heck of it, but to spread the word of the Lord.” The next year, when he was fourteen, Roberto joined the youth choir. At first he was embarrassed at singing in front of people, but then recalled his experience reading the scripture. “The truth is that the reason I am there is for God, nothing else. I believe that God does not care how you sing, read, or look, but that I believe in him, and that is all that matters.” Roberto certainly had the right attitude and serves as an example not only to other youth but to the entire church as well. The apostle Paul encouraged his readers not to participate in “debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.” “Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves,” Paul wrote, “singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts.”
