Even before my six-year-old daughter was in the car she was asking the question, "Can we go, Mom? Please can we go?" "Go where?" I asked. "To see Santa Claus," she said. Before I could say another word, she'd continued: "There's going to be bands and clowns, and floats and fire trucks and candy and people who'll take your letter to Santa Claus! It's tomorrow! So can we go? Please! Can we go?" I knew just by looking at my daughter's face that there was going to be no way of getting out of going to the Santa Claus parade, but I tried. "Do you know how cold it is supposed to be?
