In Ethiopia, the Baraka River flows north toward the Red Sea but dribbles out in the sand before arriving. It just runs out. Such is the way of some religious movements. "Running out" can happen in an institution because of the depletion of energy and leadership. Thus, some people consider church structure as a central matter of the Christian faith. Other Christians look at a church's leadership and management structure only as a necessity or even as a compromise.
The fact that the apostles took such care to decide upon Matthias demonstrates that church leadership and management structure is important. The fact that we never hear of Matthias again also demonstrates that a stable church leadership isn't the most important tenet of the Christian faith.
