An elderly parishioner told her pastor this: In my lifetime I have seen my children born,
grow up, get married, and have children. I have seen my children's children grow up, get
married, and have children. I have seen years when the grain bins were full and years
when the whole harvest wouldn't fill one bin. I have seen madmen rule their nation and
bring the world the gift of war, as well as wise men who brought us peace. I have seen
diseases arise, maim, then be eradicated. I have seen churches being built, years when
churches were so full that additions were added, and years when nobody seemed to have
need of the church anymore. I have seen fads and crazes come and go. I have seen so
much that my eyes are tired and worn out.
She was 94 when she said these things and in her own way, she was like the preacher who penned, "To everything there is a season...."
