An elderly lady called her pastor to her house for a visit.
"Pastor, I want to make a gift to the church. I want to give you $50,000, and I want to make sure it goes into the endowment to provide for any capital repairs the church might need in the future."
"That's very generous of you," said the pastor, "but if you'd prefer, you could just leave that amount to the church in your will. You don't need to give it to the church right now."
"I know, Pastor, but as a wise man once said: 'Do your givin' while you're livin'; Then you'll be knowin' where it's goin'.' "
Maybe Zacchaeus felt the same way. He wanted to be sure that the money he had gotten illegally got back to the right people. In fact, he went beyond that attitude and gave back four times as much to anyone he had cheated.
