In the eighteenth century, four Moravian missionaries sailed from London to the island of St. Thomas on the ship, Britannia. The ship was poorly armed and when a pirate ship approached, the captain and crew agreed to die before willingly allowing the Queen's ship to fall into the hands of the pirates.
"Load your pistols," the captain told the crew, "and sell your lives dearly!" He then advised the missionaries to go to their cabin, but the missionaries chose to remain on deck, where they kneeled in prayer.
