In earlier times, it was not uncommon for parents who adopted children to keep the fact hidden from them. It was feared that if the children knew that they were adopted, that this would cause both harm and emotional pain. Today, general wisdom is to tell the child that he or she is adopted from the earliest time possible, to celebrate the fact, and to reinforce that with positive and genuine love. Thank God that God has not chosen to withhold such a wonderful truth from us. -- Schmitz
