Dwight David Eisenhower, the 34th president of our United States, was even more famous for his military record. He was chief of Allied forces in North Africa in the Second World War. He was made supreme commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force in 1943, and became general of the Army ("five-star general") in 1944. He was the U.S. Army Chief of Staff from 1945-1948. He will always be remembered for directing the allied invasion of the Continent at Normandy on June 6, 1944. A rock solid military man.
One of his famous quotes was:
"I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of their way and let them have it."
-- Prescott
