Did you start today with a high-fiber breakfast? Beginning the day filled and nourished
helps. But does this ever happen? You still feel empty. Even after hearty breakfast, that
drained feeling remains.
"Forget everything and run," say some, "Go fast. Grab the action." But "escaping" doesn't help, either. It only accents your emptiness.
There's a forgotten part of us that needs daily filling. "Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?" asked the Lord (Isaiah 55). Only the bread of God's word brings whole, lasting satisfaction.
If you're not ready for large portions of scripture, enjoy some great hors d'oeuvres in the gospels of Luke and John. Read from a modern language translation if you wish, but savor them. The only person who ever mastered life taught us that we need "every word that comes from the mouth of God." "All scripture is inspired by God." We need it "for training in righteousness." Is it part of your daily diet?
