Del was in Washington DC to attend a peace conference. Christians from across the
country gathered in the nation's capital to pray. Del gained new insight into the struggle
of peace. The speakers were outstanding. Also meeting in Washington that week were a
vocal group of Christians.
One day, after visiting many of the places of interest, Del shared a taxi with two people from the vocal group. Del says that the entire trip he heard nothing but "Praise the Lord," and "Yes, Jesus!" He says he never heard anyone say, "Praise the Lord" as much as these two people in that taxi. Every other word was either "Praise the Lord" or "Yes, Jesus." The couple reached their hotel first; their bill came to $29.95. They handed the taxi driver $30 and said, "Keep the change." They only left a nickel for a tip.
Del wondered what the taxi driver must have thought of these two Christians who talked a good talk, but came up short when it came to living out their faith. They failed miserably, failing to give the driver an adequate tip.
As we begin the season of Lent may we live what we talk. May our faith be genuine, from our heart and not just an outward show. Jesus warns, "Beware of practicing your piety before others in order to be seen by them; for then you have no reward from your Father in heaven."
