In the days when the American West was being settled, a territorial governor decided to pardon a young man sentenced to die. Dressed like a clergyman, he put the written pardon in his pocket and made his way to the prison. As he approached the death cell. the inmate sprang to the bars saying, "Get out of here, I don't want to see you." "But," said the governor, "I have something for you. Won't you let me tell you about it?" "You heard what I said," responded the prisoner, "I demand that you leave." With that the governor departed.
