To this day, over 20 years later, Jackie can describe the incident in detail. She was driving a van on 401 near Toronto. Her brother, Alan, was driving a large rented truck. He was following just behind her. As usual, the traffic around Toronto was heavy. But it was moving at a steady speed of 60 mph. At that rate they'd be home in two more hours. Both Jackie and Alan said that they'd noticed the heavy, dark clouds moving toward the highway but neither gave them a second thought until torrential rains poured from the sky. The effect on the traffic was immediate.
