Daniel Webster was one of America's greatest orators during the nineteenth century. In 1848, speaking to the US Senate, Webster revealed that, although he might have been an eloquent public speaker, he wasn't much of a prophet. Webster declared, "I have never heard of anything more ridiculous, more absurd than the claim that the nation will profit by the acquisition of California. I contend it is not worth one dollar."
Decca Records dominated the American pop music industry for decades. Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, Peggy Lee, Buddy Holly, and many others were all part of Decca's stable of hit makers. When, in 1962, a Decca talent scout sent back a negative report on a group of "mop heads" from Liverpool called the Beatles, the company's executives responded with skepticism. "We don't like their sound," said one executive. "And besides, guitar music is on the way out." Ten years later, the Decca Record label disappeared.
In 1942, Thomas J. Watson, chairman of IBM, said, "Realistically, there is a market for about five computers in the entire world. There is no reason to risk our current success on such a limited venture."
Paul says God "promised [the gospel] beforehand through his prophets in the holy scriptures." Unlike these human prophets, God's prophets are 100% reliable.
