A confirmation class was discussing Exodus 20:7: "You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name." Their conversation gradually evolved into a discussion about the use of profanity. Pastor Ed asked them to make a list of words that they thought were swear words. "Where?" they asked Pastor Ed. "What do you mean?" Pastor Ed asked. "Where are we when we use the words?" they asked. "Does it make a difference?" Pastor Ed asked. "Of course!" they replied. "There's the way we talk in the classroom or at home and there's the way we talk in the schoolyard or when we're out with our friends." "Is there that much difference between the way you'd talk in school or at home and the way you'd talk when you're with your friends?" Pastor Ed asked. The students looked at Pastor Ed with surprised looks on their faces. "Of course there's a difference!" they exclaimed. "Wasn't there a difference when you went to school?"
