A common event in an American suburb is the scene of a family sowing the seeds of disaster among its three young children. Mother, yelling across the street: "Get over here, that's one spank you've got coming." The child mutters an excuse, which mom cannot hear. It is based on the fact that dad is across the street, too, playing basketball with the neighbor and obviously he's not going to get a spanking! (Mom is really yelling at Dad, but no one, including her, recognizes that fact.)
