A close encounter with God in all his majesty is a rare and special thing. The ability to open the doors for others to such experiences is given to only a few individuals. One such person is the Swiss theologian Karl Barth, who in the words of Alec Vidler,
makes me aware that theologians and preachers, and all of us, who prattle away so easily about God, ought to be silent, if God is in truth the Ineffable Mystery, the Mysterium Tremendum, the Ground of all Being, the Final Arbiter of all Existence.
