A child under the age...
Illustration
A child under the age of 18 is a minor. If a minor has no living parents, if the parents cannot be found or are unwilling to care for their child, the child needs a guardian. A guardian must be at least 18 years of age, of sound mind, with no criminal record, and in a position to care for the minor.
Basically, the guardian must make arrangements for the minor's care: health, education, living, and comfort. The guardian must consent to any medical treatment or care that the minor may need. In many states, the guardian may be required to report periodically to the court concerning the minor's mental, physical, and social condition, and the minor's living, health, and education conditions. The guardian is also charged with caring for the minor's estate and monetary assets, spending only what is necessary for the child's health and social needs.
At the age of 18, the guardianship of the person ends, and the guardian's letters are revoked. However, the guardian is not discharged until a final account has been filed and approved by the court.
In the same way, the Law was the guardian of God's people until Christ came. It was put in place that they might grow in healthy and safe circumstances until Jesus Christ came to care for us personally. The letter of discharge was signed on the first Easter morning.
