As a child I used...

As a child I used to regularly lose things that were precious to me. When that happened, I'd run to my mother or father crying, "I can't find my ______________." They would then suggest places to look. Over and over again I'd run to my mother telling her that I couldn't find what I was looking for. The longer I looked, the more desperate I became, until finally my mother would stop what she was doing, walk to the first place she'd told me to look, and pick up the item I thought was lost. I could never understand how that happened.
Now that I'm a parent I find that the tables have turned. When my daughter has lost something that is important to her, she comes running to me crying, "Mom, I can't find my_________________." Invariably, I walk to a specific location and put my hand on the item that was lost.
I wonder what there is about being a parent that helps us find the things that are important?
