Cesar Chavez, renowned farm worker...
Cesar Chavez, renowned farm worker organizer in California, called to task the president of the California Grape and Tree Fruit League, which represented the owners and operators of the fields in which the migrants and local farm workers labored. In the public debate that took place between these two and the people they represent, the president, E. L. Barr, accused the farm workers of using violence and terror tactics in promoting their cause. If true, this, of course, would be totally contrary to the nonviolence strategy that Chavez advocated, after the examples of King and Gandhi.
