The building of the church of Jesus Christ shall always be founded upon the truths of this Scripture passage. Any of us who have worked in the church for many years will come to know it suffers greatly from human error and weakness. Saving us from despair is the eternal fact that, when we get back to recognizing grace alone as the salvation of our lives, we, too, have the Good News back in proper perspective.
The true church of Jesus Christ (thank God) is not made up of denominations, creeds, or doctrines. It is made up of flesh and blood people. The church is addressed as:
even when we were dead through our trespasses,
made us alive together with Christ ...
raised us up with him, and
made us sit with him in the heavenly places.
Never in the Scriptures does God talk about the church using it pronouns. The church is always us, we, or they -- people pronouns, if you wish. People pronouns who have planted their feet and hearts and minds in the foundation of accepted mercy and grace.
