A brush fire swept over...
Illustration
A brush fire swept over an area near a farm, causing great alarm. The farmer and his family brought out buckets and rakes and fought the blaze as well as they could, but it, nevertheless, destroyed some of the outbuildings on the farm. When the ashes had cooled, the farmer walked over the charred area to survey the damage. Noticing one odd lump on the ground, he poked it with a stick. It was a hen, burned to death. As the farmer turned the hen over, to his surprise, out ran a baby chick, chirping and terrified but evidently unharmed. The hen had died in the flames, but had instinctively protected the life of her baby chick. What a reminder of the promise of God's protecting love!
