Brita Stendahl, who taught for a number of years at Harvard Divinity School, observed that many people in the academic community had little appreciation for regular participation in corporate worship. The value of this kind of ritual was not held in high esteem by many of her friends and colleagues. Stendahl resisted such temptation to forgo Sunday worship which to her was an irreplaceable hour during the week.
