Brian Mardsen, director of the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, released the results of an 88-day study of 1997 XF11, an asteroid that circles the sun every 21 months. He predicted that the mile-wide hunk of primeval rock might hit the earth on October 26, 2028.
