The boys and girls got into the story of David and Goliath. Their eyes were wide-open as I told about the shepherd boy who picked up five smooth stones and prepared to meet the giant. Their arms circled their heads the way David did as he prepared to let the stone fly to its mark. They cheered when David won the day.
That very night, little Hugo was getting ready for bed. He knelt by his bedside to pray. Then he hopped into bed, telling his mother he didn't need the light anymore. She asked why. He said, "I'm not afraid. David wasn't afraid when he faced the giant. God was with him. And God is with me."
