A Boy Scout promises in...
A Boy Scout promises in his Scout Law to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent. It would not make sense to tell a Scout that it would be okay if he picked just nine of those 12 virtues to follow. It would not make sense to tell a boy that he could be dishonest, rude and cowardly, as long as he followed the other parts of the Law. If someone wants to be a Scout, then all 12 parts of that Law must be followed. In the Sermon on the Plain, Jesus describes what the characteristics of the Christian life are.
