Borden P. Bowne, a noted philosopher at Boston University, had a strong confidence in God's power to control the future. He had a colleague, a certain Professor McCabe who did not share such optimism about God's ability to control events. On a visit to his friend in Delaware, Bowne continued their usual discussion about nature and purpose of the universe into the wee hours of the morning.
The next morning as Bowne was leaving McCabe gave his panting shot: "Bowne, do you think God would have created this world if he had seen how it was coming out?"
