Ben Weir, a Presbyterian missionary from America, on May 8, 1984, was going out his door on his way to a meeting at the theological school in Beirut, Lebanon, when a car suddenly pulled up. Men got out of the car and seized him. They took him to an unknown destination. He was not sure how long he would be kept blindfolded and chained to a radiator in their hideaway. As it turned out, he had to endure this captivity, most of which was spent in solitary confinement, for a whole year and a half.
