In basketball one of the drills that a player learns is how to take a charge. Taking a charge is standing in the way of the player with the ball, keeping completely still, and getting knocked down by the opposing player. This sacrifice of one's body can mean the difference between winning and losing in a close game. In hockey a defenseman will often throw himself along the ice to prevent a shot from going into the goal, in essence using his body as a human shield. In baseball a catcher will block home plate from the oncoming runner even though he knows the oncoming runner is bearing down on him at full speed. In sports faithfulness to one's job does not necessarily mean certain death but it can mean certain injury. In spite of all these risks player after player has remained faithful to the task. -- Watson
