Baptism superseded circumcision which was administered when a child was only eight days old. Any reason for denying baptism to infants, if valid, is a reason for denying circumcision to them. The first persons to receive Christian baptism (and Jewish circumcision) were adults. If God intended circumcision to be extended to infants, he also wishes infants to receive baptism. The Christian church was intended to be much more universal and all-embracing than the Jewish church, rather than more exclusive.
