Axel Hjalmar Ender, of Molde...

Axel Hjalmar Ender, of Molde, Norway, painted a glorious picture of "Holy Women at the Tomb." He portrays the sepulcher as a great cave into which two Marys and Salome have come to anoint the body of the dead Christ. To their amazement they find the tomb empty. The body is gone! They see an angel clad in robes of dazzling white.
The golden light of the first Easter dawn streams through the arch-like entrance. These women who have come early with their oil and spices do not know what to make of this. They hear the words we so often repeat: "He is not here. He is risen!"
