An avid bicyclist is very aware of how important good equipment is to a safe and enjoyable ride. Before each ride, taking a few moments to check the brakes, the shifting cables, the wheels, and the tire pressure can make all the difference. The tire pressure is especially important. Because the tires are so small, riders should try to keep the tires inflated to the recommended poundage -- as much as 120 pounds of pressure in some tires. While over-inflation invites blowouts, too little pressure increases the likelihood that the tires will bottom out and cause a flat.
