An attitude of reverence, penitence...
Illustration
An attitude of reverence, penitence and prostration in God's presence will not achieve anything of worth unless it is a prelude to a new beginning, i.e., to rise up, stand and acknowledge that God has some great thing for us to do. The late James S. Stewart of Edinburgh wrote: "Ezekiel, when this word came to him (2:1), was prostrate on his face before the humbling glory of a great revelation, right down in the dust. But this is not the whole of religion. God intended to use this man in his service, and he said: 'Ezekiel, not on your face, but on your feet! Stand up, and I will speak to you' " (The Expository Times, vol. 89, p. 181).
