To know God is love and experience that in all avenues of life is the apex of existence. To be mistaken in what that love is and what it entails seems the greatest of all tragedies.
One of the renown pulpiteers of the nineteenth century seemed caught up in his own egotism, lust, greed, and sentimentality. While he was world-famous and a showman of the first order, there are clear signs that his life - much of the time - moved in directions and channels away from the peace and selflessness inherent in God's love.
