The apostle Paul speaks of honoring God with our lives in our lesson. He was writing to people just like us. They were members of the church at Thessalonica. They probably worked at jobs they didn't like to earn a living which they felt was inadequate. Then they spent money on things they didn't need. Does that sound familiar? How many of us really take the time to determine how best we can honor God with our lives? The Martin family in my hometown were dedicated the faithful members of the Catholic church. Their children loved their church. It was no surprise then that Marian would decide to honor God with her life by becoming a nun. In the process she broke the hearts of a good many boys in her high school. She was a beautiful girl. She had gracious manners and was very intelligent. The leading Catholic college in our state was Bellarmine College. She went there and then entered a convent. It would seem years before we actually saw her visiting back home in her formal attire as a nun. I have no doubt that Sister Marian truly honored God. We won't all go to that length. Paul isn't calling us all to full-time Christian service like Marian. But he is calling us to be faithful witnesses to the Good News of the Gospel.
