The Apocalypse of John asserts that all of human behavior must now be measured in the light of the One who has conquered death and will return. Humanity does well then to heed the message of angelic heralds to be awake. That same note is sounded by others from a different point of view. In 1982 Jonathan Schell published The Fate Of The Earth, a book that resulted from a series of three articles he wrote for the New Yorker. Schell sounded the alarm that human civilization was threatened with total devastation by a nuclear holocaust.
