(A)Pastors...

Pastors are well aware of the dangers and cautions of church building programs. They can quickly become a curse as they divert energies and monies away from ministry and into mortar. It is amazing, isn't it, that we will give a single check for $5,000 for a window in a grand cathedral and ignore a church's persistent world hunger appeal? A text such as this reminds us of a God who has traveled among tent people, nomadic wanderers, people who knew God's presence and persisting care. Neither temples nor tombs have been able to contain him! Our bodies become his body. The God of the pillar of cloud, fire, burning bush, and still small voice defies the limitations of spatial confinements. No house of cedar or grandiose cathedral can compete with or remove God's present presence in your life and mine.
