As any carpenter will tell you, "You can't stretch a board, but you can always cut one down to size." A party where all the food is consumed is a failure. It is always better to have some left so that you know that everyone had all they wanted. To have enough income just to meet expenses is uncomfortable for most people. Better is to have some left to put into savings to prepare for the unpredictable.
