Annette was born with a hole in her heart. Although it had been corrected, she continued to have heart problems throughout her childhood and into her teen years. Annette's parents would not allow her to get involved in any activity outside their home, with the exception of school. To Annette's dismay, that even extended to regular worship and Sunday school. But when Annette was old enough to attend confirmation classes, her parents reluctantly allowed her to participate.
Annette loved being involved with the class. She rarely missed a session and was always the first pupil to arrive and the last pupil to leave. From the first class on, Annette made a commitment to a regime of daily prayer and scripture reading. Not long after Annette began her daily devotions she asked, "Pastor, I'm really not sure what I'm supposed to say when I pray to God. So, is it all right if I just think about God?"
